Fafi, whose real name is Fabienne Saincry, is a renowned French street artist born on August 29, 1975, in Toulouse. She first gained recognition in 1994 by painting bold, colorful female characters—called the Fafinettes—on the walls of her hometown.
A Feminine and Subversive Universe
The Fafinettes, central to her work, are voluptuous, provocative women who blend innocence with attitude. They embody a free, powerful, and unapologetic femininity, inspired by pin-up aesthetics and pop culture. Through them, Fafi challenges gender stereotypes and claims space for women in the male-dominated world of street art.
International Career and Collaborations
Fafi’s unique style led to collaborations with major brands like Sony, M·A·C Cosmetics, Adidas, LeSportsac, Coca-Cola, Chanel, Hennessy, Swatch, and Samsung. Her work has appeared in prestigious magazines such as Vogue, Elle, The Face, and XLR8R.
In 2007, she contributed to the music video for Oh My God by Mark Ronson, featuring a “Fafinettized” Lily Allen. She also co-directed the video for Do! Do! Do! by the duo Carte Blanche in 2010 and has worked with artists like M.I.A, Mademoiselle Yulia and Azealia Banks.
In 2021, she created the "Fafinettes Portraits", an experience where she transforms her collectors into her famous characters, either in a sit-down (Tokyo, New York, Hawaii and Los Angeles) or via her Social Networks.
Works and Publications
Fafi has published several books showcasing her creative world, including Girls Rock (2002), Love and Fafiness (2005), and The Carmine Vault (2012), a graphic novel exploring a fantasy universe inhabited by Fafinettes, Hmilos, and Birtak.
Personal Life
In 2005, Fafi had a son, Neil Faveris-Essadi, with DJ Mehdi. She currently splits her time between Paris, Biarritz and San Sebastian home of her new studio where she continues to develop her art and is working on the second volume of her comic book.
